Happy Monday!! 6 months! I can not believe 6 months have flown by already! I am so excited to share some of Hinckleys 6 month pictures and some baby advice!
Hinckley turned 6 months old yesterday, I can not believe it. It seems like only yesterday I was sharing my must haves for your hospital bag, you can read that Here, and my thank you gift for the sweet nurses Here!
In these last short yet quickly passing six months we have had some ups and downs with Mr. Hinckley. He ended back in the hospital when he was 5 weeks old, due to failure to thrive and while there we found out he has horrible reflux which was a major cause of losing and not gaining weight. We also found out that during birth he had broken his collarbone and that the hospital staff had missed it completely. Thankfully, by the time it was discovered, he was already almost completely healed. It was a trying and hard time for Mike and I as parents, but a wonderful faith building time also.
We are so grateful to have Hinckley in our family! He is doing wonderfully now! Still a tiny guy, only 14 lbs, but gaining every day and hopefully the reflux is getting less and less as each day passes. He is one of the happiest little babies, always smiling and so happy.
Hinckley can roll over now, he still has a little trouble getting his arm out from under him, but he sure tries! He sleeps for a four to five hour stretch some nights, other nights he wants to eat all night long. As exhausting as that is, I will feed him every chance I get! I do not want him to end up back in the hospital and with reflux still pretty bad, I never know how much he has kept down, so if he is hungry… I feed him!
He has started to try to sit up, working those little tummy muscles, he loves to reach for things or people. Heather is one of his favorite people, he leans in to get to her. He has just started doing that with Grandpa Meier and it is so sweet to see him love those two.
He coo’s and gurgles and has the sweetest laugh, he fills our lives with so much joy. All the other children adore him and try to help, even Marsha…. She is two and insists on helping change his diaper every chance she gets! She is getting really good at it too! She can take it off, put the new on and pull the tabs. She totally changed his diaper the other day when I asked to just play with him while I finished dinner. TOTALLY changed his diaper, it was a super loose diaper on his little body but she did it! Kinda scary right? Thank heavens he was only wet…. sigh… phew… thank you Marsha, wait for mommy next time :)
I am so grateful to be his mom, grateful he is in our family and grateful for the opportunity we have to see him grow up. I know families are forever and I am so thankful for that.
My most important advice to any mom, new or seasoned, young or old, single or married…. is to love them, love them with all your soul. Hug them more than you think you should, laugh with them, give them kisses, let them see your eyes light up when they come in the room. Don’t forget to take time to breathe and if you get overwhelmed take a break and remember it will be over in a blink of an eye and you will miss it. I already miss the tiny little baby that could be held with one arm and how he just snuggled for hours. In 6 months he has grown so much already, I look at Emma (15) and remember her as a tiny baby and it doesn’t seem that long ago and now she is taller than me and in highschool! I still think all that advice is good no matter the age, love them, love them with all your soul. Hug them more than you think you should, laugh with them, give them kisses, let them see your eyes light up when they come in the room. Don’t forget to take time to breathe and if you get overwhelmed take a break and remember it will be over in a blink of an eye and you will miss it.
I now realize Hinckley is not smiling in very many of these! Uh oh! May need to take a few more pictures!! Have a happy day! Go hug your kids!
Happy 6 months Hinckley!

How sweet! So glad Hinckley is doing much better. I REALLY love the last photo and the one where he is sucking his thumb. What a sweet heart. I am stuck between wanting Jace to get to the point where Hinckley is now and wanting him to stay at that infant stage. Raising infants is sooooo bitter sweet.

Teamakeaka,
Thank you!! I know it is so bittersweet! Just try to enjoy every day, both good days and days that are spent just loving and holding a crying baby!
Love,
Lara
