Happy Tuesday everyone! Today is the choosing happiness tip #8!! Something simple that can make you feel a little happier! EAT PRETTY! What does that mean? Well, how many times have you made dinner? Almost every night right? We all have to eat, we all have to eat multiple times a day. It will be that way until we die. So, why not enjoy each meal?
I have shared my early and crazy mornings and that I will often eat an egg on the run, but when we are sitting down to eat, even for lunch with the little ones, I always want to make it a little more special, I think we eat and enjoy food differently when it looks better. So, I always use my serving dishes. Nothing super fancy… just simple white ones for the most part. But what a difference it makes in how your meal feels and looks.
We had Mikes birthday dinner on Sunday, NOTHING fancy at all. We have the tradition that you pick what is for dinner on your birthday. Mike picked chicken pillows and corn…. that was it, no salad, or bread or anything else, he is a simple guy. Million dollar pie for dessert. Side note, I just realized that I have never shared either of those recipes… WHAT! Those are two easy and yummy dishes! I will need to share those soon!
Sorry, back to serving dinner, very simple dinner, nothing fancy.
Here is what it looked like with just the pans I used to make them.
Let’s be real here…. it is ugly. It is, it is still good food, and it will still taste good, but with your eyes eating first, meh…. it looks ok.
Just by putting the food on serving dishes……… and the lemonade in a pretty pitcher……
Looks better, looks a little more special.
Isn’t every meal with your family special? Aren’t you special? Even when eating alone, I will take an extra minute to make my plate look nice, that simple and easy step makes me feel a little pampered.
I have often struggled with saving things… I don’t want to waste it, I want it to be special and perfect. I found myself not using things… well what good is that? Remember my Lotion Story? I have worried about chipping a serving dish, what if the kids put it in the sink a little too hard or it gets dropped. I have come to the conclusion of oh well. Things may happen like that, I still mourn the loss of my large rectangle serving dish, cracked two years ago, still too soon to discuss, just kidding, but I still miss that dang dish!
When it comes using and enjoying things, it is better to enjoy them than to always be waiting for that perfect day…. so use your nice dishes! I have served meals on nice dishes since Emma was a baby and I love that the kids, have followed my example and they serve on nice dishes also. So use the nice dishes, use the china, it is not doing any good sitting in a cupboard. You can always find great serving dishes at thrift stores too!!
Here are some more pictures from Mikes birthday dinner.
You don’t need to spend a lot of money either, the special birthday glasses are from the dollar store, the pitcher is thrifted and the plates were in a box set.
Try it this week, see if you feel a little more pampered and that your meal is a little more special! Do you have any special things you do at dinner that make your meal special?
