Happy Monday! Yes, you read the title right! GLITTER PLAYDOUGH! I know! Playdough is fun all on its own, but add glitter to it….. you’ve got a party! I wanted to do a fun craft for Charli, she loves playdough and we always make our own. The stuff we had been using is a few months old and although it was once beautiful colors, they have mixed colors so many times, it was now a lovely gray. I have seen ideas on pinterest ( love that site….) that had snow playdough, which is a white playdough with silver glitter. Wellllllllll, I don’t have silver glitter, but I do have purple!! I like to make kool-aid playdough, it smells so yummy and love the colors, so I try to keep some on hand. I was hoping I had some purple kool-aid, YAY! I have purple kool-aid! HELPFUL HINT: Keep kool-aid on hand, we don’t drink it but it sure comes in handy for crafts! This is a super easy craft, seriously only takes minutes and the kids love it and they can play long enough for a busy mom to take a shower!
I really love play dough. I love playing with the kids while they play. I always find we have the best conversations while they play. They will just start talking and you can find out how they are feeling about things. They really open up. I know sometimes we get so caught up in the business of life that we forget to play with our children. Ten minutes of play can change your day. I know I feel better and more connected if I do that. I try to remember that childhood is so fleeting and even though it seems like I will always have toys , books, and a million pairs of little shoes strewn about… soon that will all be gone and I will have a house that stays clean and tidy. But, I won’t have little giggles of children hiding under the table ready to scare me, little hands reaching up for a hug, running of little feet for big hug, homemade notes that say I love you Momy ( yes spelled just like that). AND you know what? I am really going to miss those things. I want to enjoy the time I have with them. SO this morning, glittery playdough it is! Have a happy, wonderful day!
Recipe:
2 cups flour
1 cup salt
1 pkg of Kool-aid
1 tbsp. cream of tartar
2 tbsp. oil
2 cups of water.
IN a large pot, over medium heat, I stir all dry ingredients together. I then add the liquid ingredients and keep stirring. It will come together. It will get clumpy… just keep stirring. When it pulls away from the side it is done! Remove from heat and just keep stirring for about another 30 seconds. Take it out and knead it until all smooth and cool. I then just made a small indent on top of the playdough ( like a well) added the glitter and kneaded until all is combined. I added about half of the small container I had. I wanted a lot of glitter! HELPFUL HINT: this does leave a little glitter where you are playing, so be aware and it smells really, really good. SO don’t let the little ones eat it, I will be honest you maybe tempted to just put a small piece on your tongue just to taste it because it smells so good……. don’t do it! Not that I have tried that or anything! A great way to store this is either in a zip lock bag or save old Tupperware containers or even an old playdough container. HAVE FUN!
