Happy, Happy Thursday!! Holy Cow the week is almost over! NOOOOO!! I mean don’t get me wrong I am super excited for the weekend, but bummed that another week of summer vacation is over. It just flies by too fast! Another week closer to baby time! What! That feels so close! So much to do before he gets here!
I love to cook! I really do, I love it. Looking through cookbooks in the evening is relaxing and so enjoyable. Getting my menu ready for the month is a fun project, some days when we are having must go, I love the challenge of making a delicious dinner only using leftover items in the fridge. That being said, there are a few shortcuts that I have learned along the way that are FABULOUS!
Homemade donuts….. super yummy! Donuts in general…… yum! They can be time consuming and lots of work. Sometimes, we just want donuts around here for a simple dessert or family home evening treat. That is when this easy recipe comes in! Donuts used with canned biscuits! EASY! Inexpensive and fun for kids to help!
This is really all you need, biscuits and sugar… oh you will need oil to cook them in and a bag…..
Super easy! Just open the biscuits, be ready for the pop which no matter how many times I open biscuits, they still scare me! Gently make a hole in the middle and kinda press them out a bit in a circle donut shape.
Throw them in hot oil, ( heated to 375) and cook for about 1 min or 2, you can see they are golden brown in the centers when they are ready to flip.
They look perfect! Grab them with tongs or anything other than your hands and put them in a paper bag, I make massive amounts so I use a brown paper grocery bag, if the kids are doing their own, I will use brown/ white paper lunch bags.
Perfect for when kids are helping or you making a smaller batch! Just poor a cup of granulated white sugar in there, you could also use cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar too!
YUMMY!! Finished! Took less than ten minutes! The kids love eating them! Know who loves eating them even more than the kids? MIKE! They are one of his favorite desserts!
Had to throw in this cute picture…. nothing other than a cute donut face little girl!
Here is the printable recipe! ENJOY!!! I would love to hear how many you can eat! Mike is at 9!
- 2 canned biscuits (homemade or buttermilk are fine)
- 1 cup of granulated sugar*
- Frying oil preheated to 375 degrees. ( have the oil in a fryer or a deep pan, the oil should be enough that the donut can float.
- one paper bag ( brown/white lunch bag )
- Preheat oil to 375 degrees
- pop open biscuits ( don't be scared!)
- shape into donut shape with a little hole in the middle or no hole! You can even do letters or shapes!
- Fry for about a min per side
- drop in bag and shake, remove and eat!
- * you can also use powdered sugar or a cinnamon sugar blend*
