Happy, happy Thursday! I am so excited for the weekend!! SOOO excited! It is supposed to warm up and honestly I just can’t wait! Even if it is just a few days of warmth, I will love and appreciate every moment!
I wanted to share my monthly menu with you. I keep a monthly menu of breakfast and dinner plans, lunch so often is leftovers from the night before and since the kids are in school. I make a separate lunch plan for them. I made the calendar one day for a craft with my sweet sister-in-law Emily, if you want I can share the how to on that soon! We printed up all the meals we could think of and then put them on paint swatches and laminated the. They have magnets stuck to the back of them. You can see in my picture some of the meals the magnets are on the front. Those ones have come off and I just have not glued them back on yet!
I plan a month in advance and then do a large list for the month. I then plan two weeks out including desserts and sides. I make one huge list and off I go! I keep a weekly menu on the wall for the kids, it is in a more prominent place to be seen! I usually go shopping every Wednesday while the kids are at church, sams club is right there! It works well! I also allow for changes, sometimes things get switched around or changed completely!
I love the weekly menu too. Depending on my writing ability, I will write the entire meal on the board…. okay that is only if Emma writes it for me, I can not write small … ever! I do have what I want for sides and dessert planned also. I think dessert at every dinner is important! It keeps the week simple and I feel very prepared in the morning to just get dinner started or at least begin prepping. The easy things, thawing chicken, prepping salad… For instance, today is spaghetti, so I know I need to make peasant bread, a salad and brownies for dessert this morning!
I love the menu board though ! When I have not done it, or I am behind with it, I do feel a little more stress about what to make for meals. It seems that without a plan even if you have a pantry of food…. you still will feel like you have nothing to make for dinner! I have found for me, this works great! I have about 80 dinners that I can choose from and I keep about 12 basic breakfast. The breakfast just rotate it seems, makes the mornings go smoother. If for some reason, I had a really late night or just didn’t get prepared enough…. I always make sure to have eggs and sad to say a box of cereal around…..I don’t love cold cereal, why you ask well……
Do you remember that commercial of the little boy swimming in the bowl of cereal, he was wearing a wet suit and came up out of the bowl and while shivering said,”can I just have a muffin please?” I loved/hated that commercial! I never wanted to feed my kids cereal for breakfast again! I do try to keep shredded wheat around so I feel a little better about cold cereal!
So, there you have it! The Meier Menu! Any questions! Ask away! As for me, today is -8 again, and I am going to do some laundry :) Nothing warms you up like laundry, I may hold on it a little longer while carrying it out of the dryer to the couch…. no need for baskets today! Have a happy, wonderful day!
HUGE HUGS,
