Happy, Happy Friday! Wow, this week has flown by! Do you find as you get older that time really does seem to speed up. I remember as a kid, summer felt like forever and then school took forever and then it would be Halloween and it was so far from Thanksgiving and that was so far from Christmas? Now, it is like I blink and BAM! It’s Halloween and BAM! It’s Thanksgiving! So, I am just going to try to enjoy each quickly passing day! I want to share my five things this week that I am LOVING! What a busy week it was~ with Halloween, Halloween parties, trick or treating, decorating, I had 3 cakes and 2 sets of cupcakes this past week, babysitting three days for some friends, some hair bow orders, making 93 bags of popcorn for the kids school…. yes 93! It was a busy week. Every week can be busy, so I am always looking for the simple things that make me feel joy and feel happy! So drumroll please….. P.S. I hope as you read them, you feel joy too or it makes you think of a few things you are happy about!
1.I made 93 bags of popcorn! First of all, I love popcorn, next to pretzals it is my most favorite snack EVER! I WAS REALLY PROUD OF THOSE 93 BAGS! I did those in like an hour and a half! I wanted to eat all 93 bags but I did not……I will admit, I ate a very large bowl of it later that day….. and then some more yesterday, yes another large bowl… and part of Emmas bowl too.
2. A salt bowl! Now, what pray tell is a salt bowl? Well, I love using kosher salt and I had my salt in just a normal bowl, not pretty and no cover…… at a thrift store I found a set of bowls! One for salt and one for pepper, I don’t use pepper that often, so I am not super excited about the pepper. The salt bowl though?? YAY!!!!
3.The horse ride at Wal-Mart! I love the horse ride! I remember loving it as a kid! I remember my mom putting like 5 of us on one horse so she could afford to let all of us have a ride. I am continuing the tradition of multiple children. Charli and Lucy love it! It is fifty cents well spent as a treat at the end of a long shopping day! I am so glad they still have those around.
4.CANDY CANES are HERE! Yes! Candy canes! I have a rule , the first time I see candy canes I have to get a box. I don’t know how I got that rule, but that is the rule! I saw them yesterday at the dollar store…. it is the start of a joyful, fun season! I love them! Try to not be happier when you open a candy cane…. just try it ,oh and eat it like you did as a kid…… telling you…. FABULOUS!
5. The sweet, honest lady at the dollar store! While running errands earlier this week, I lost my phone. My phone with so many pictures that I have been meaning to download but haven’t, all my contacts that I have been meaning to memorize, but haven’t and let’s face it, phones are expensive to replace. I was at value village and loading the car, I looked for my phone to see what time it is, ( I never wear a watch now…. do you?) I realize it is gone. NOOOOOOOO!!! I ask some poor random lady to borrow her phone, she was leery at first and once I explained, very sweet. She kept an eye on the kids so I could go back and look. Ran back in the store, checked, asked the cashiers…no phone. I am starting to get really worried, I said a quick prayer and go back to the van. This sweet, wise woman said ” go back to the other store you were at and don’t worry, there are good people in the world.” I hoped she was right, but I will be honest. I was worried. I quickly pulled up to the front of the Dollar store and ran in, as I was coming in, I saw the cashier reach under the counter and joy filled my heart! I knew what she was reaching for, I knew it and almost screamed for joy! She said, she knew me from my sister Joani and that she had left a message for me at my home number. I hugged her so tightly and thanked her. I share this next part not to brag, at all, but just to share how it made me feel. I felt like I needed to give her some money. Mind you, I am not wealthy by any means. But I felt like I should. I happened to have $20.00 in my purse, that alone is crazy, I never carry cash. I felt that I needed to give her it and say thank you again. So I did, she was so very happy and grateful. Who knows if she needed it for something and I was merely an answer to her prayer as her honesty was to mine. So many times we are blessed by others listening to a prompting they had, I am grateful I was able to pass it on. As I drove away, I uttered a prayer of thanks, and a few moments later the phone rang! It was the sweet lady from Value Village making sure I had my phone. She was right! There are many good people in this world! I am so grateful to both of those women who chose to go the extra mile!
Those are my five fabulous high fives this week! I hope this next week, we all look for wonderful, fabulous things that bring joy to our hearts! Enjoy your weekend! I can not wait to cook with my salt and eat another one or three candy canes!
