Happy, happy Tuesday! What a lovely day!! This morning Mike told me two deer were on the front porch eating some little berries on a the bush right by the door. I think they are looking for spring too! The deer are often in the backyard never the front! It is supposed to be up to 38 today! Yay! It is going to feel like a heat wave!
I wanted to share our little chore chart. I think all kids need chores. I am constantly reminding my kids that I am not a maid, but a mom. Moms are not maids! We have a large family and we need everyone to help out to have the house run smoothly. That being said, it does not always run smoothly……. The attempt is there and the learning is there so I am going with as they get older, hopefully it gets easier!
I think all ages can do chores. Marsha is 16 months old and she so helpful! I will have her help pick up toys, or she is also really good at putting silverware in the dishwasher. As the kids get older, the chores are bigger. Emma can do the whole kitchen, Lucy is great with the Tv room or the mud room. We switch every week and it works, Saturdays the whole family deep cleans together. I have little sheets that are laminated that have specific chores for each room. I will share those at another time!
I have tried other chore charts, I have done the board for each child that changed daily, I tried the dry erase in their room, I was going to do a wheel but it would have to be huge to include everyone! I copied Mikes class chart! I went to the dollar store and found the bees and honey. The bee hive all works together and listens to the queen! It is brilliant I know!
The Chores change weekly, dinner help changes daily. Charli moves around and helps others also. Some days I have really cleaned up during the day so on those days, it is more of a general just help out. For instance, yesterday I mopped and waxed the floors, so the those jobs were not needed. The children who had those chores helped the others.
I ran to the dollar store and got some cute bees and honey jars, for the set of 12… only $1.00! (love the dollar store!)
I made each child two bees and filled the honey pots with chores that needed to be done daily.
I used the magnet strip and cut small pieces, you can also use Velcro, in hindsight, the Velcro would be first choice. The magnets were a little annoying.
Stuck the magnets on! Again, you can use Velcro also!
I taped each honey pot to the door of a closet in our front fireplace room. I wanted it somewhere seen daily and often. I did not want to give up a bunch of wall space! SO closet door was a great alternative!
Our bees! I made a simple vinyl with my silhouette, I love the saying do your best and want them to see that every time they look for their chore!
Heston has floor and table!
I had a little magnet on each side so that Charli could fly around and be a helper with each chore! They each can help each other if needed!
I love it! It has been working so great and I love that I no longer have to remember what chore I gave who last! I think working together is important and I am grateful that the children are such great helpers!
I am so grateful for the attitude I learned growing up, My dad would gather us around and teach us the correct way to mop the floor or do the dishes, I find myself doing the same thing! I want my children to put forth their best effort always! I always check the chores when they are “done” , I first give them the opportunity to have one of the other kids check it before me. At times, the other children are tougher than me! I do that because it teaches the children to notice how clean it really is, I hope it carries into their chores and when they think it is “finished”
I am not an expert on this! Just a mom who needs/wants a clean house and needs/wants the children to help out! It works for our family! What do you do? Have you found a chore chart or chore plan that has worked for you? I would love to hear about it!!
Have a super day!!
SMILE BOOK!
Green dinner! Yummy! AND green tongues afterwards!

I am so glad you shared this! As our kids get older, the complexity of the chores change. I love the beehive-little bees-queen theory! The littlest bee can fly around and helper the bigger kids.
