Happy, happy Monday!! What a great day! We are having another “COLD” day! So, the kids and Mike are home from school! YAY!! AND we already know school in cancelled tomorrow too! Today we are going to have some fun and I am really excited to have a fun evening that we can stay up a little later and play games or watch a movie!
I am so very, very excited to share this recipe with you!! It is seriously so, so delicious! This is my mother-in-laws recipe and it is simply one of the best desserts! I often tease I got married just to get this recipe! I did not, but it was a nice bonus to marrying the greatest guy ever!
This is really easy and perfect just about any day, I really love it in the fall and winter. The smell of baking apples and cinnamon ….seriously one of the best smells!
My mother-in-law often shares a story that she made this one day for dinner that night and she slowly kept snacking on it and realized about half was gone, so she made another for dinner and finished the original on off! I hope you try and I know you will LOVE IT!
Peel and chop about 8 apples, I like Fuji, braeburn or Cortland best. Chop enough to cover the bottom of a 9 x 13 baking dish.
Layer in the 9 x 13 baking dish.
Pour 1/2 cup of orange juice over all the apples.
Sprinkle the apples generously with cinnamon.
In a bowl combine, 2 cups of sugar.
add 1/4 tsp salt.
and 1 & 1/2 cups of flour, mix well.
Add in one cup of softened butter. I like the salted butter :)
Cut in the butter with a pastry blender! HELPFUL HINT: If you do not have a pastry blender, you can use two knives, it will take awhile though!
Cut the butter until it is pea size crumbs.
Sprinkle over the apples, covering them. Bake at 400 degrees in a preheated oven for 45 min. HELPFUL HINT: at about 35 min, take a butter knife and poke the crisp a few times, it makes the top crispy and so, so good! It will be golden brown and bubbly when done.
Does that not look AMAZING! Seriously, some vanilla ice cream sprinkled with a bit of cinnamon…. you have not only a beautiful dessert but also a delicious dessert!
Here is the recipe :
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Peel and chop about 7 apples. Enough to layer a 9×13 pan,
Pour a 1/2 cup of orange juice over the apples. Sprinkle generously with cinnamon.
In a separate bowl, add
1 &1/2 cups of flour
2 cups of sugar
1/4 tsp of salt
Mix these three ingredients well. Cut in 1 cup of softened butter. You want to cut the butter until it is about pea size crumbs. HELPFUL HINT: Use a pastry blender to do this! If you don’t have one, you can use two knives but it is going to take awhile!
Sprinkle over the apples, covering them.
Bake at 400 degrees for 45 min, HELPFUL HINT! At about 35 min, take a butter knife and poke the crisp. It makes the crust a little more crispy…. crispy in this case means even more delicious!
Serve with Ice cream ( vanilla is best!) Or serve alone, make it pretty! I hop you enjoy!
Have a super day! I am off to enjoy my family! Stay warm!! Pop in tomorrow for some more fabulous info!!
HUGE HUGS!

Stacy Onines-Jensen says
Is there a reason for the soft butter instead of cold? Instead of cutting in butter, I mix in cold cubed butter with my KitchenAid. I quickly get pea-sized.
LaraM says
Stacy!
I have never done that! Can I do that for a post one day! BRILLIANT Idea!!
